The Brazilian national men's football team is a national level football team managed by the Brazilian Football Federation, representing Brazil in large-scale international A-level football competitions. Its home stadium is located at the Maracana Stadium.
The Brazilian team was founded in 1914 and first won the Copa America (then known as the South American Championship) in 1919. In 1922, they once again won this honor. In 1949, Brazil won their third Copa America championship and hosted the World Cup in 1950. At that World Cup, Brazil suffered the "Maracana tragedy" and lost to Uruguay, failing to win the championship. In 1958, under the leadership of Pele, the Brazilian team won their first World Cup championship, and four years later they successfully defended their title. In 1970, Pele led the Brazilian team to win their third World Cup championship and permanently retained the Jules Rimet Cup. From 1994 to 2002, the Brazilian team reached the World Cup final three times in a row, winning two championships and one runner up. In 2004 and 2007, the Brazilian team achieved two consecutive victories in the Copa America. In 2014, Brazil hosted the World Cup again, but lost 1-7 to Germany in the semi-finals and only finished fourth. In 2018 and 2022, the Brazilian team failed to reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup for two consecutive years.
The Brazilian team has participated in all 22 World Cups and is the only team to be fully present, winning a total of 5 World Cup championships, 9 Copa America championships, and 4 Confederations Cup championships. In July 2024, Brazil lost 2-4 on penalties to Uruguay in the quarterfinals of the Copa America, missing out on the Copa America semifinals.
